The #1 cargo e-bike regret isn't the bike — it's discovering it doesn't fit your life spatially. Solve storage before purchase.

Storage options, ranked

  1. Garage: ideal — measure the space; longtails need ~7 feet
  2. Shed: works if weatherproof and securable; add a ground anchor
  3. Apartment: extremely difficult — front-loaders generally impossible; some longtails fit large elevators (measure!)
  4. Balcony/patio: possible with a quality cover, but weather and security suffer
  5. Outside: last resort — demands the best lock setup, covers, and insurance

Security for big bikes

Cargo bikes can't use standard racks well — ground anchors (bolt-down rings) in garages/sheds are the answer. Two locks, battery removed, and dedicated insurance. A cargo bike is a $3,000–6,000 asset that doesn't fit in a closet — treat it like one.

Secure it
